Symbol of the city
The City emblem’s central design is the Japanese syllabary for Obu’s “o”. Incorporated into this design is the syllabary “no” used in “nogyo” (agriculture), the Chinese character “rapid progress of Obu”.
A competition aimed at citizens, held on October 1, 1958, saw this emblem chosen as the winning entry, and subsequently adopted as the city’s official emblem.
